Agriculture is
dependent on an adequate water supply of usable water quality.
Water quality concerns have often been neglected because good
quality water supplies. This situation is now changing in many
areas. Intensive use of nearly all good water quality supplies
means that new irrigation projects seeking new or supplemental
supplies must rely on lower quality and less desirable sources.
To avoid problems when using these poor quality water supplies,
there must be sound planning to en-sure that the quality of
water available is put to the best use. This study investigated
determinants of water quality in Suez Canal Region, Egypt. There
are four sources of irrigation water as follows: Nile water (Ismailia
canal), well water, drainage water and blended water (El-Salam
Canal Project). Data on water quality (water class) for 32
monitoring points were used for analysis. Different chemical
proper-ties of irrigation water of Suez Canal Region cities were
com-pared with the international water quality standards for
irrigation. According to standards, there are No problems of
chemical properties of irrigation quality. Evaluation of water
quality in Suez Canal Region (especially in Ismailia
Governorate) for irrigation were carried out using different
index methods, for example ESP, SSP, SAR, RSC, PI, KR and EC;
among these, majority of index results were similar to PI and KR
implying that the 100% of the samples fall under excellent and
were excellent to good category.
