In Nigeria given
increasing demand for Fish, there seems to be a potentially
strong market for the product. However, this study seems to
quantify barriers to the performance of small scale fish
marketing in Dutsin-Ma local government area of Katsina State. A
five point likert rating scale was used to measure the level of
agreement of important barriers to performance among Fifty (50)
small scale fish marketers. The result showed that most of the
marketers sell dried and smoked fish also, poor source of water,
poor record keeping habit, low access to credit, high entry rate
of marketers, poor market infrastructures were the most
constraining factors faced by small scale fish marketers in
Dutsin-Ma local government area and ranked as 1st, 2nd, 3rd,
4th, 5th. The study recommended capacity building through
training, technical assistance and literacy programmes as well
as development of a robust network between entrepreneurs and
research institutes.
