Abstract

The exploitation, transformation and marketing of wild products have often made it possible to compensate for food deficits and have often provided for financial supports, in particular during welding periods. Non timber forest products are diversely used in the rural area, and therefore increase the dependence of rural populations to forest products. Non timber forest products are linked to important marketing activities which generate substantial incomes and as a consequence take part to the standard of living in rural area. On the other hand, the gathering of the same products is very essential for the recognition of women living in the sector as main actors in the development of economic activities. Furthermore, the gathering of non timber forest products is no longer a fortuitous act in the rural community of Niaguis but an activity generating substantial incomes sometimes more important than agricultural incomes which even are gradually lowering. This article lays stress on the importance of the gathering of non timber forest products for the reduction of poverty and hunger in rural milieu. In addition to their important role as food suppliers, they are a financially consequent resource for families living in the rural community of Niaguis. Therefore, the promotion of activities based on forest products that can generate incomes should be favored within the framework of a policy that aims at the reduction of poverty in rural milieu.
