|
The present study
aims to detect vegetation changes in Northern Ethiopia using GIS
techniques. Normalized Difference Vegetation Index was employed
to separate green vegetation from other surfaces based on the
vegetation reflectance properties of the area. For this purpose,
two different years of satellite imagery (Landsat 5 TM of 1985
and Landsat 7 ETM+ imagery 2011); Global positioning system and
topographical maps of scale 1:50,000 for ground verification
were used. ERDAS Imagine 9.1 and ArcGIS 9.3 software were
employed for satellite image processing, and NDVI mapping and
analysis. The result of this study indicated that demolition of
vegetation biomass coverage between 1985 and 2011 images.
