The Glasgow Coma
Scale (GCS) is one of the best and common scoring systems used
to describe the level of consciousness in a person who has a
traumatic brain injury. It was invented in 1974 by Graham
Teasdale and Bryan j. jennet. It has 3 major components; first
is the eye-opening, second is verbal response and the third one
is the motor response. The best score of GCS is 15/15 and the
worst score is 3/15. Across sectional observational study
performed on 150 nurses to observe nurse’s knowledge and
practice regarding GCS techniques implementation. According to
this study a lot of participants did not have sufficient
knowledge of GCS implementation techniques in ICU and emergency
departments. The study revealed that only 34.3% of nurses have
sufficient knowledge about GCS assessment and interpretation, on
the other hands 65.7% of the population did not know about GCS
assessment and interpretation. It is concluded that the majority
of nurses have insufficient knowledge and week assessment
regarding GCS.
