|
The house-fly,
Musca domestica L., not only is a nuisance pest, but also it
acts as an important mechanical vector for lots of pathogenic
microorganism agents, including: bacteria, protozoa, worms,
fungi and viruses amongst humans and animals. The aim of this
study was to isolate and identification bacteria that are pick
up by house-fly over the human and animal premises and study
their effect on house fly cuticle. In this study house flies
were collected from Damanhur El-homiat hospital, Damanhur public
garden in addition to those that reared in laboratory as
(control group), to isolate their bacteria. The bacteria were
identified by DNA extraction and PCR amplification of their 16S
rRNA gene. The bacterial isolates included 7 new bacterial
records for house flies: Bacillus subtilis, Bacillus cereus,
Bacillus flexus, Bacillus licheniformis, Bacillus
amyloliquefaciens, Bacillus thuringiensis and Klebsiella
pneumonia. Most of the organisms recovered from the house
fly are serious pathogens, known to produce diseases such as
food poisoning, diarrhea, pneumonia, urinary tract infection and
inflammation of upper respiratory tract. The possible exception
is Bacillus thurinigensis; a known pathogen for insects
is that only occasionally produces allergic reactions in humans.
Also the presence of bacterial flora on the cuticle of house
flies causes morphological changes on their cuticle. In winter
and spring, house flies that collected from El-homiat hospital
shows pigmentation on epicuticle layer, whereas in summer the
house flies collected from Homiat hospital shows disturbance on
the morphology of cuticle, also in autumn there is increase in
thickness of epicuticle of flies that collected from garden.
