This study
assessed residential quality of life in planned areas in Port
Harcourt Municipality. The study ascertains residents’
perception of neighbourhood attributes, residential quality of
life and the most important variables to enhance residential
quality of life. Primary data was collected using questionnaire,
to a sample of 171 respondents. The univariate analytical method
was adopted. The study found, that residential quality of life
was low with garbage on the streets. There was no street
lighting and periodic flooding occurring in the neighbourhoods.
The study revealed that 16.4% of the residents were unhappy with
their residential quality of life and 49.2% of the residents’
perceived neighbourhoods to be of medium quality. The study
concludes that the improvement of conditions as perceived by the
residents was important in raising residential quality of life,
and recommends that in the provision of public services, the
perceptions of the beneficiaries must be taken into account.
